Women's Swimming & Diving Wraps up Two-Day Events

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's swimming team competed at the UW-River Falls Falcon Invite at the University of Minnesota while the diving team was at St. Cloud State (Minn.) for a diving meet Friday and Saturday.
The Blugolds picked up five first-place finishes, three second-place finishes and five third-place finishes at the Falcon Invite.
Nicole Dorvinen (So.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) took first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:12.55, first in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:44.99 and second with a time of 5:19.09 in the 500-yard freestyle.
Julia Olson (So.-Faribault, Minn.) also recorded a first-place finish individually as she took the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle with a B-cut nationally qualifying time of 24.38 seconds.
Two UW-Eau Claire relay teams also won their respective events.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Julia Olson, Ann Grossklaus (Sr.-Rib Mountain, Wis./Wausau West), Casey Preissel (Jr.-Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) and Megan Finley (Jr.-Waunakee, Wis.) won with a time of 1:39.48. Another Blugold relay team finished third in the event out of 26 teams.
Also winning was the 400-yard freestyle relay team made up of the same members of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team. They took the top spot with a time of 3:36.79.
Finishing in second place at the invite was the 200-yard medley relay team of Abby Hinz (Fr.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata), Andrea Strub (Jr.-Verona, Wis./Memorial), Jamie Olson (So.-Delafield, Wis./Kettle Moraine) and Preissel with a time of 1:54.26 and Karen Boosalis (So.-Maple Grove, Minn.) in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:36.01.
Hannah Ramquist (Fr.-River Falls, Wis.), Preissel, Julia Olson and the 400-yard medley relay team all secured third place finishes at the invite as well.
A couple Blugolds also dove at the St. Cloud Diving Meet this weekend. Becca Moos (Fr.-White Bear Lake, Minn./St. Agnes) led the group with a 16th place finish in the one-meter event (304.85 points) and a 20th place finish in the three-meter event (259.6 points).
The Blugolds will be at home next Saturday for a dual meet against UW-La Crosse. Action will get underway at 1 p.m. at the McPhee Physical Education Center.
