Wed, Jun 19, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Swimming & Diving Competes in Minnesota By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's swimming team competed at the UW-River Falls Falcon Invite at the University of Minnesota while the diving team was at St. Cloud State (Minn.) for a diving meet Friday and Saturday. Brett Olsen (Sr.-New Berlin, Wis./West Allis Hale) had the Blugolds' best finish at the swimming invite as he took second place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.25. Recording third, fourth and fifth place finishes was Ben Macalalad (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./East). He took third in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:52.94), fourth in the 400-yard individual medley (4:32.50) and fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (4:53.00). Jonathan Poppele (So.-Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata) also competed well at the event as he had a fourth place finish and two fifth place finishes. He took fourth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.55) and fifth in the 100 and 200-yard backstrokes with times of 57.51 and 2:01.70, respectively. Corey Groshens (Fr.-St. Louis Park, Minn./Hopkins) had a fourth and fifth place finish in the 100 and 200-yard breaststrokes while Chris Paradeise (Jr.-Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) finished the 1,650-yard freestyle in fifth place. The 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay teams took fifth place at the invite. A few Blugolds were also in action at St. Cloud State's diving meet. Nick Badilla (Fr.-Appleton, Wis./North) led the group as he took fourth in both the one and three-meter events with 397.9 and 410 points, respectively. The Blugolds will be at home next Saturday for a dual meet against UW-La Crosse. Action will get underway at 1 p.m. at the McPhee Physical Education Center. |
