(UWECBlugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire cross country head coach Dan Schwamberger has been named the 2009 NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year for women's cross country, U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association officials announced today. Schwamberger, in his third year with the Blugolds, guided the women's team to its first NCAA title in program history last Saturday (Nov. 21). The program also captured an NAIA title in 1984. Eau Claire also won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference crown for the third year in a row and the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional title for the second consecutive year. Schwamberger was also named the Midwest Regional Coach of the Year following the regional meet last week. He also coaches the men's team, which took 16th out of the 32 teams at the national meet. It was the first time since 1999 the Blugold men have competed at nationals and also the first time in program history both the men and women have competed together at the NCAA Championships. |
