Fri, May 24, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women Swimmers Take First, Men Second In Appleton Posted: Saturday, December 4, 2004 APPLETON - The UW-Eau Claire women's swimming and diving team took first place in the six-team 2004 Titan Invite while the men's team claimed second place here today at the Boldt Natatorium at Lawrence University. The women's team finished with 721 points while UW-Whitewater claimed second place with 386. Lawrence finished third with 373, UW-Oshkosh fourth with 271, Ripon fifth with 136, and Marquette last with 106. After earning three first-place finishes in day one of the event, Cori Severson (Jr.-Brainerd, MN) took home four more during the second day. Individually, she won both the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle, with times of 54.74 and 2:04.14 respectively. She was also a part of both the winning 400 and 800-yard freestyle relay teams. Annie Gorman (Jr.-Menomonie) won the 400-yard individual medley event with a time of 5:01.34 and also won in the 200-yard butterfly event with a time of 2:21.32. Gorman was also a part of the 400 and 800-yard winning freestyle relay teams. Kara Kneisl (Fr.-Mahtomedi, MN) and Sarah Myers (So.-Eau Claire/North) earned the final individual wins for the women Blugolds, with Knesil claiming first place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:17.92 and Myers winning the 3-meter diving event with a score of 351.20. The 200-yard medley relay team also earned a victory for the women. On the men's side, Whitewater won the invite with a team score of 468.5. The Blugolds finished second with 462 points while the Oshkosh was third with 422.5. Lawrend, Marquette and Ripon rounded out the final three. The Blugold men swept the diving events, with Scott Heatwole (Jr.-Port Washington) winning the 3-meter event with a score of 431.55. Bryan Dykstra (Fr.-Racine/Horlick) took first in the 1-meter event with a score of 441.00. Mike Carroll (Sr.-Green Lake) earned the only other win for the Blugolds in day two of the event, winning the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.65. The Blugolds will be back in action next Saturday when they visit La Crosse for a dual meet against the Eagles. Competition is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. - DN - |
