(UWECBlugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire women's cross country head coach Dan Schwamberger has been named the 2009 NCAA Division III Midwest Region Coach of the Year, U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association officials announced today. Schwamberger, in his third year with the Blugolds, has guided the women's team to three Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles and two NCAA Division III Midwest Regional crowns. Prior to Schwamberger joining the Blugolds, the team won its last conference title in 1985. Last weekend, Schwamberger helped lead the Blugolds to their first place finish at the regional meet as they accumulated 52 points, 20 ahead of the rest of the field. All seven runners competing at the regional were named the to the All-Region team as they all finished 35th or better. The Blugolds will now compete at the national meet, which will be held this weekend in Highland Hills, Ohio, for the fifth straight year. The Blugold men, also coached by Schwamberger, will join the women at nationals. It is the first time both teams will attend the meet together. The last time the men competed as a team at nationals was in 1999 and they finished 13th overall. |
