(UWECBlugolds.com) - After defeating St. Mary's University 2-1 in the final minutes of the game last night, the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team was narrowly defeated 2-1 by the Cardinals today at Hobbs Ice Center. The first goal of the game went to the Cardinals as Ingrid Klockars scored an even-strength goal in the second period to put the visiting team up by one. The Blugolds started the third period hot as Katie Ward (So.-Andover, Minn./Coon Rapids) scored an even-strength goal for Eau Claire in the first 27 seconds, with assists coming from both Shannon Nelson (Sr.-Blaine, Minn.) and Taylor Jenkins (So.-Austin, Minn.) to tie the game at one. Just as the game looked like it was headed to overtime, St. Mary's Ingrid Klockars once again found the back of the Blugold net with a little over thirty seconds left to play to defeat Eau Claire 2-1. The Blugolds drop to 2-2-1 on the season while the Cardinals picked up their first win of the season. St. Mary's offense topped Eau Claire's as the Cardinals outshot the Blugolds 29-20. Nicole Lence (Jr.-St. Paul Park, Minn./Park) played 59:27 while picking up 27 saves. St. Mary's Kaye Collier picked up the win on the day as well as 19 saves. Eau Claire will be back at Hobbs Ice Center again next Friday to take on Adrian (Mich.). The puck is set to hit center ice at 7 p.m. |
