Sun, May 19, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Blugold Wrestlers Go 1-3 At St. Olaf Duals Posted: Saturday, December 4, 2004 NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team defeated St. Olaf but fell to Buena Vista, Loras and William Penn here today at the St. Olaf Duals. The Blugolds opened up against Buena Vista losing 26-19. Dave Vanevenhoven (Jr.-Kaukauna) earned a 7-5 decision at 149 pounds while Lance Valiquette (Fr.-Eau Claire/Auburn) earned a 10-6 decision at 174 pounds. Mike Stremer (Fr.-Oshkosh/West) and Josh Holforty (Fr.-Bloomington, MN) earned wins at 184 and 197 pounds, respectively, with Holforty's win pulling Eau Claire within one point but Drew Bingner (Fr.-Fort Atkinson) was pinned in the heavyweight division in the final match. Eau Claire followed with a 39-6 loss to Loras College. Derek Sikora (Jr.-Neillsville) made his season debut against Loras earning the first Blugold win with a 9-2 decision at 165 pounds. Holforty earned the other Blugold win with a 4-3 decision. Holforty used a late third period takedown to preserve the win. The Blugolds lost 28-13 in their next dual against William Penn. Sikora earned his second win of the day with a 2-0 decision for the only Eau Claire win in the dual. Eau Claire concluded the day with a 36-12 defeat of St. Olaf. Sikora continued to win with a 19-6 win while Holforty had his team-best fourth pin at 197 pounds. Holforty pinned his opponent in 41 seconds for the fastest Blugold pin this year. Vanevenhoven, Bingner, Valiquette, Ted Sikowski (Fr.-Appleton/West) and Tony D?Antuouno (Jr.-Waukesha/South) all earned wins against St. Olaf. Sikora and Holforty both went 3-0 on the day while Valiquette went 2-1. The Blugolds fall to 1-4 on the year following today's events. The Blugolds will wrestle next when they have a dual against UW-La Crosse Wednesday. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. - JL - |
