(UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team recorded a late goal to defeat St. Mary's University (Minn.) 2-1 tonight. With the teams tied after the first period 1-1, Beth Dittrich (Sr.-Roseville, Minn./Roseville Area) helped the Blugolds come away with the victory, scoring a goal with just over three minutes left in the game. She was assisted by Kristin Faber (Jr.-Austin, Minn.) and Dani Kerr (Fr.-Little Canada, Minn./Roseville). In the first period, SMU took the 1-0 lead at the 9:42 mark. Eau Claire was able to tie it up just over eight minutes later with a power-play goal from Faber, her first goal of the season. The assist went to Jackie McKay (So.-Franklin Park, Ill./East Leyden). The Blugolds, now 2-1-1, finished with 31 shots while the Cardinals had 36. The Blugolds' Nicole Lence (Jr.-St. Paul Park, Minn./Park) played the entire 60 minutes between the pipes and secured her first win of the year with 35 saves. St. Mary's drops to 0-3-0 on the year. Eau Claire will battle St. Mary's again tomorrow afternoon with a game at Hobbs Ice Center. The puck is set to drop at 2 p.m. |
