(UWECBlugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire men's and women's hockey goalies Tyler Brigl (Sr.-Eagan, Minn./Eastview) and Danika Porter (Jr.-Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul) have earned Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) player of the week honors, conference sports information director Brian Monahan announced today. The Blugold men secured their first two wins of the season this weekend at home and Brigl allowed just one goal. In Friday's contest against Augsburg College (Minn.), Eau Claire shut down the Auggies 3-0 and Brigl recorded 22 saves. Against Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) on Saturday, the 10th-ranked team in NCAA Division III and last year's national runner-up, Brigl stopped 30 shots as the Blugolds came away with a 3-1 win. Since last weekend, he held opponents scoreless for just under 114 minutes of play. Porter helped the Blugolds pick up their first win of the season this weekend, playing 125 minutes between the pipes in two games. Against Bethel University on Friday, the Blugolds picked up a 2-0 victory as Porter stopped 20 shots. On Saturday at home against St. Thomas (Minn.) the Blugolds held the eighth-ranked Tommies to a 3-3 tie in overtime while Porter came up with 34 saves. |
