(UWECBlugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire football player Austin Neu (Fr.-Iron Ridge, Wis./Hustisford) and men's hockey goalie Tyler Brigl (Sr.-Eagan, Minn./Eastview) have been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference athletes of the week, conference sports information director Matt Stanek announced today. In UW-Eau Claire's 27-17 victory over UW-La Crosse on Nov. 7, Neu helped the Blugolds with his leg and his arm as he was selected as the special teams player of the week. With the Blugolds up by just three points in the fourth quarter, Neu helped UW-Eau Claire pull away with a 45-yard touchdown pass on a fake punt. It was the first touchdown pass of his career. Punting, Neu averaged 37 yards per kick, including a career-long 51-yard punt that landed on the four yardline. The Blugold men's hockey team secured its first two wins of the season during the weekend and Brigl allowed just one goal. Against Augsburg College (Minn.) on Nov. 6, Brigl recorded 22 saves in a 3-0 triumph. Against No. 10-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) on Nov. 7, He stopped 30 shots as the Blugolds came away with a 3-1 win. |
