Wrestling Competes at Lakeland Duals

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team opened up the 2009-10 season today by competing in the Lakeland Duals.
The Blugolds competed in five dual meets against the host school Lakeland College (Wis.), Trine University (Ind.), Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.), Milwaukee School of Engineering and Wabash College (Ind.).
In the first dual match against Lakeland, the Blugolds were defeated 37-9. In the second match, Eau Claire fell to Trine 44-6. The Blugolds were beaten by Concordia-Moorhead 42-0 in the third match, then fell to Wabash 46-3 and finished the day losing a close match, 28-18 to MSOE.
Against Lakeland, the Blugolds had two winners. At 149 pounds, Andy Johnston (Sr.-St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) pinned Nate Campbell in 1:42 and at 174, Keith Dawson (So.-Neillsville, Wis.) defeated Chris Collins by a score of 7-4.
Against MSOE, the Blugolds came away with four wins. At 141, Joshua Baier (Fr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Rosemount) pinned Matt Weber at 6:04. At 157, Jon Ames (Sr.-Genoa, Wis./Viroqua) defeated Ferdinand Morales 6-4. At 174, Dawson defeated Adam Chauklin 5-1 and at 184, Will Christ (So.-Shell Lake, Wis.) pinned Caleb Staub in 0:39.
The Blugolds will be back in action on November 21 when the team travels to Minneapolis for the Augsburg Open. The event is set to begin at 9 a.m.
