Volleyball Finishes Regular Season with Two More Wins

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The 19th-ranked UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball team completed the regular season with two more wins today at UW-River Falls' Trick-or-Treat Classic at the Karges Center.

The Blugolds improve to 28-6 on the season with 3-0 wins over Marian University and UW-Stout. Eau Claire opened the day defeating Marian with scores of 25-10, 25-21 and 25-9 while following with a victory over UW-Stout with scores of 25-16, 25-10 and 25-13. The Blugolds' 3-0 win over Stout was their third of the season as the teams also faced each other on Oct. 14 and Sept. 4.

Against Marian, Eau Claire hit .317 and totaled 42 kills while Marian finished with just 11 kills and a -.015 hitting percentage. Amy Bomgren (Fr.-Woodbury, Minn.) led the match with eight kills while Lindsey Smith (Sr.-Maple Lake, Minn.) finished with a match-high 11 digs. Amanda Lessner (Jr.-Watertown, Wis.) and Emily Neave (Fr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) each finished with double-digit assist totals with 16 and 14, respectively.

Facing Stout, Eau Claire hit even better with a .337 percentage and Liz Amici (So.-Whitewater, Wis.) recorded a match-high 11 kills as Eau Claire finished with 42. Rachel Ver Voort (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Middleton) recorded nine digs to lead Eau Claire and Neave finished with 37 assists to lead the match.

Blair Murphy (Jr.-Hermantown, Minn.) also earned All-Tournament honors following the classic this afternoon.

The Blugolds will start Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament action Tuesday when they take on UW-River Falls at home. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the McPhee Physical Education Center.
