Volleyball Picks up Two Wins at NWC Triangular

ST. PAUL, Minn. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's volleyball team recorded two wins at the Northwestern College (Minn.) Triangular at Ericksen Center tonight.

The 19th-ranked Blugolds defeated Crown College (Minn.) 3-0 with scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-16 before taking down the host Northwestern 3-1 with scores of 26-24, 20-25, 25-18 and 25-14. Earlier in the day, Northwestern beat Crown 3-0 with scores of 25-5, 28-7 and 25-17 to secure its third consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) championship.

Against Crown, Serena Wagner (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) led the Blugolds with seven kills while she hit .357. Lindsey Smith (Sr.-Maple Lake, Minn.) had seven digs to lead Eau Claire and Amanda Lessner (Jr.-Watertown, Wis.) finished with 11 assists while Emily Neave (Fr.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) finished with 10. As a team the Blugolds hit .207 while Crown had a hitting percentage of .059.

Facing Northwestern, Emily Zupon (Jr.-Antigo, Wis.) finished with a match-high 12 kills while both teams recorded 46 apiece. The Blugolds finished with 23 errors and Northwestern had 35. Neave had a match-high 34 assists while Blair Murphy (Jr.-Hermantown, Minn.) and Smith each had 14 digs to lead Eau Claire.

The Blugolds are now 24-6 on the season. Northwestern drops to 18-10 and Crown falls to 4-24. Eau Claire is now 9-1 all-time against Northwestern and 2-0 all-time against Crown.

Eau Claire will wrap up the regular season this weekend with four matches at the UW-River Falls Trick-or-Treat Classic. The Blugolds will open action facing Rockford College (Ill.) at 4 p.m. Friday.
