MADISON, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - Five UW-Eau Claire Blugolds have earned Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference athlete of the week honors, conference sports information director Matt Stanek announced today.

Selected this week were men's cross country runner Adam Flyte (Jr.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.), women's soccer player Lisa Marco (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), men's diver Nick Badilla (Fr.-Appleton, Wis./North), men's swimmer Ben Macalalad (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./East) and women's swimmer Nicole Dorvinen (So.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port).

Flyte battled through heavy snowfall to win the Lake Wissota Invitational on Oct. 23. He ran the 8,000-meter course, which was blanketed with two inches of snow, in a time of 27:45 andled the Blugolds to a perfect score win over UW-River Falls and UW-Stout.

Marco, who was the WIAC's offensive pick, scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Oct. 24 to allow UW-Eau Claire to secure second place in the WIAC standings. It was her fifth goal of the year and came with just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation. On Oct. 25 against Carleton College (Minn.), she helped the Blugolds outshoot the Knights 17-5 but UW-Eau Claire came up just short 2-1.

Badilla helped the Blugolds to a 124-117 victory over NCAA Division II Minnesota State University-Mankato on Oct. 16, winning both the one and three-meter dives. In the one-meter, he won with 221.5 points, while he took the top spot in the three-meter event with 220.75.

With the Blugolds defeating NCAA Division II opponent Minnesota State University-Mankato 124-117 on Oct. 16, Macalalad won both the 500-yard freestyle and 1,000-yard freestyle. He finished the 1,000-yard event in a time of 10:29.74, almost 20 seconds ahead of the rest of the field, while he won the 500-yard with a time of 5:04.02.

Competing in three events, Dorvinen took first place in each one as the Blugolds defeated NCAA Division II Minnesota State University-Mankato 134-109 on Oct. 16. She won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:17.35, while also picking up first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.36) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:23.07).
