EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's swimming and diving team picked up a win over Minnesota State University-Mankato at the McPhee Physical Education Center tonight to start the season.

The Blugolds finished with 134 points while the NCAA Division II Mavericks recorded 109.

Eau Claire secured eight first place finishes this evening.

Nicole Dorvinen (So.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) won three events to lead Eau Claire. She won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:17.35 while also picking up the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.36. Dorvinen also won the 500-yard freestyle by more than a second with a time of 5:23.07.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Ann Grossklaus (Sr.-Rib Mountain, Wis./Wausau West) won with a time of 2:03.01 and Julia Olson (So.-Faribault, Minn.) took first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24:56.

Megan Finley (Jr.-Waunakee, Wis.) also recorded a first place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.57 while the Blugolds also took the next three spots in the event.

The Blugolds picked up the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Finley, Grossklaus, Olson and Casey Preissel (Jr.-Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) winning with a time of 1:40.76.

In the one-meter dive, Katrina Fitzgerald (Fr.-Farmington, Minn.) won with a score of 230.95.

The Blugolds will have a couple weeks off now, and the divers will next compete on October 30 against UW-Stevens Point and St. Cloud State (Minn.) in McPhee. The swimmers will then head to St. Cloud for a triangular with the same teams the following day.
