Sun, May 19, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Tennis Falls Just Short in Regular Season Finale By: Matt Troge, Sports Information Student EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - In its last regular season meet at the McPhee Physical Education Center for the fall season, the UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team suffered a narrow 5-4 defeat today by UW-La Crosse. The Blugolds fell short to the Eagles 4-2 in the singles match competitions. The No. 1 singles player, Gina Dahl (Sr.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.), took her match 6-1 and 6-0. The only other Blugold singles winner was Megan Born (So.-Antigo, Wis.), who won her match 6-4 and 6-3 at the No. 3 spot. The No. 2 and No. 4 matches were closely contested but La Crosse players came out on top. The doubles competitions faired better for the Blugolds, taking two of the three matches. The No. 2 pair of Brenna McCormick (Sr.-Greendale, Wis.) and Erin Welch (Sr.-Tomah, Wis.) defeated their La Crosse opponents 8-4 while the No. 3 doubles team of Taylor Heltne (Fr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) and Born had a close match, winning 9-8 (7-2). The Blugolds end the 2009 regular season with an overall record of 8-3, while being 4-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletics Conference. The Eagles improve to 9-2 on the year while being 4-1 in the WIAC. The Blugolds will head to the capital of Wisconsin next Saturday to take part in the WIAC Championship. Events are slated to begin at 1 p.m. |
