Former Blugold Finishes Strong at Chicago Marathon By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director CHICAGO (UWECBlugolds.com) - Former Blugold cross country and track and field All-American Mary Palmer (Anoka, Minn.) ran a 2:46.21 in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Sunday. In her marathon debut, Palmer finished 266th overall in a field of over 33,000 runners. She was 15th overall for women, and wasthe seventh American finisher missing the Olympic "B" standard by just 21 seconds. The Chicago Marathon has been run every year since September 25, 1977 and 4,200 runners competed in the initial race. It is among the fastest growing marathon road races in the world, due in part to its largely fast and flat course which facilitates the pursuit of personal records and world record performances. |
