Tue, May 21, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Basketball Doubles Up Superior Posted: Wednesday, December 1, 2004 SUPERIOR - The 20th-ranked UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team didn't need a 50-foot shot at the buzzer to win at UW-Superior this year doubling up the Yellowjackets 84-42 here tonight at Clough Gates Gymnasium. The Blugold offense and defense were both in fine form. The offense shot 48.1 percent from the field for the game and assisted on 22 of 25 baskets. The defense shut down the Superior offense holding the Yellowjackets to 25.5 percent shooting and forcing a season-high 26 turnovers. Joanna Leafblad (Sr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) scored a season-high 12 points hitting 4 of 6 from behind the arc. Angie Foschi (Fr.-Andover, MN/Anoka) scored a career-high 11points including 9 of 12 from the free throw line. Jessica Dickey (Sr.-White Bear Lake, MN/Cretin-Derham Hall) scored in double digits for the fifth time in six games with 10 points. Becca Carstensen (Sr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) and Michelle Burns (Fr.-Eau Claire/North) led the Blugolds to a 43-34 rebounding advantage with nine a piece. Rachel Becker (Jr.-Gilmanton) played a complete game scoring eight points, distributing eight assists and making six steals in only 24 minutes. Eau Claire never trailed taking a 2-0 lead following two Becker free throws. Superior within two points at 10-8 before the Blugolds went on a 16-2 run to take a 26-10 lead. Eau Claire closed the half on a 17-1 run to send the game to halftime leading 47-16. The Blugolds had a balanced offensive attack in the first half with three players scoring eight points and three others scoring six. The Yellowjackets shot only 25 percent in the half and committed 15 turnovers. Eau Claire improves to 6-0 on the season and 1-0 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. Superior falls to 1-4 and 0-1 in the conference. The Blugolds will be in action next when they host 9th-ranked UW-Stevens Point Saturday at Zorn Arena.
