Wed, May 22, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Tennis Beats River Falls By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team picked up another conference win today, defeating UW-River Falls 8-1 at the Ade Olson Indoor Courts. The Blugolds are now 8-2 overall and 4-1 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. River Falls drops to 7-6 overall and 2-4 in the WIAC. Eau Claire swept doubles' competition today. Megan Born (So.-Antigo, Wis.) and Taylor Heltne (Fr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) won 8-0 at No. 3 while Brenna McCormick (Sr.-Greendale, Wis.) and Erin Welch (Sr.-Tomah, Wis.) picked up an 8-1 victory in the No. 2 spot. Gina Dahl (Sr.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) and Courtney Lynne (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) also won but by a narrower margin of 8-4 at No. 1. In singles' play, Born lost just four games in a 6-4, 6-0 win in the No. 3 spot while McCormick gave up five in a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2. No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 were all closely contested matches but Blugolds all came away with wins. Welch won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 4 while Jillian Horner (Fr.-Middleton, Wis.) won 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 and Michelle Reinders (Jr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) won 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6. The only loss of the day for Eau Claire came in the No. 1 spot. In a heated battle, Dahl fell just short 1-6, 6-3, 6-7 (8-10). Friday the Blugolds will close conference dual play at home against La Crosse. Action will get underway at 3 p.m. The WIAC Championship is set for next weekend (Oct. 24-25). |
