Mon, May 20, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Tennis Defeats UW-Stout 8-1 By: Kevin Meinholz, Sports Information Director EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team defeated I-94 rival UW-Stout 8-1 indoors in the Ade Olson addition of the McPhee Physical Education Center today. The Blugolds (6-1, 3-0 WIAC) won their fourth consecutive meet today while the Blue Devils (3-7, 0-4 WIAC) lost their fourth straight. Eau Claire swept the doubles competition with its only loss of the evening coming at No. 1 singles. Three matches were won without allowing the Blue Devils to win a single game. With 6-0, 6-0 scores, Megan Born (So.-Antigo, Wis.) won at No. 3 singles, Jillian Horner (Fr.-Middleton, Wis.) won in the No. 5 spot and Michelle Reinders (Jr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) won at No. 6. All three also remained undefeated in singles play on the season. Brenna McCormick (Sr.-Greendale, Wis.) and Erin Welch (Sr.-Tomah, Wis.) gave up just three games in their singles matches. McCormick took the No. 2 competition 6-1, 6-2, while Welch won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4. On the doubles side, Born and Taylor Heltne (Fr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) won 8-1 at No. 3 while McCormick and Welch picked up the victory at No. 2, 8-3. Gina Dahl (Sr.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) and Courtney Lynne (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) won 8-5 in the No. 1 spot. The Blugolds will now be off until Oct. 10 when they are scheduled to take on UW-Whitewater and Edgewood College. Both meets will be contested in Eau Claire at the McPhee Physical Education Center. |
