Tue, May 21, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Soccer Defeats Luther College 2-1 By: BJ Pickard, Sports Information Student DECORAH, Iowa (UWECBlugolds.com) - Two second period goals propelled the UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team past Luther College (Iowa), as the Blugolds defeated the Norse 2-1 on Sunday. The Blugolds were able to record 21 shots on goal, while Luther College was only able to manage 12. Eau Claire also had the edge in corner kicks with seven to just one from Luther. Luther's Kelsey Balk scored at 29:12 in the first period to give the Norse a 1-0 lead, but the Blugolds would come back in the second half. Eau Claire's Katie Richter (Fr.-Waukesha, Wis./West) scored her second goal of the season with an assist from Lisa Marco (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) at 48:08 in the second period. Then, at 61:03, Megan Hillesheim (Jr.-Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) assisted Emily Alsheskie (Fr.-Plymouth, WI/St. Mary's Springs) with her fourth goal of the year to put the Blugolds on top for good. Blugold goalie Emily Kidd (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) played all 90 minutes, recording four saves and allowing one goal. The Blugolds (6-2-1) next face off with UW-Superior on Wednesday at the Bollinger Fields in Eau Claire. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start. |
