(UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team placed third out of 14 teams in the Mustang Invite at the Marshall Golf Club this weekend. The University of Nebraska-Omaha, an NCAA Division II school, won the tournament with 637 strokes over 36 holes. Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) took second with 643 strokes. Eau Claire, who came into Sunday tied with Gustavus for the lead, finished with 649 strokes overall. Rebecca Pollack of Nebraska-Omaha and Kathleen Ritter of Minnesota State tied for the top spot overall with 155 strokes, 11-over-par for the tournament. Ritter won medalist honors after the playoff. Leading the Blugolds overall was Katie Maurer (So.-Forest Lake, Minn./Convent of the Visitation), who finished tied for fifth overall with 158 strokes. Emily Swift (So.-Onalaska, Wis.) tied for seventh place with 159 and Catherine Wagner (Fr.-Austin, Minn.) tied for 20th with 164 strokes. Maggie Lattery (So.-Lake Nebagamon, Wis./Northwestern) shot 166 to tie for 26th place, while Katie Ecker (Fr.-Hudson, Wis.) shot 169 to tie for 33rd place. Both golfed as individuals at the tournament. Sara Mattes (So.-La Crosse, Wis./Central) tied for 37th place with a two-day total of 170 and Jamie Hauser (So.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) rounded out the tournament for the Blugolds with a score of 171, good for 42nd place. The Blugolds are off until the WIAC Women's Golf Championship. The event will be held Oct. 9-11 at the Northern Bay Golf Resort and Marina in Arkdale, Wis. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon on Oct. 9. |
