(UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's cross country team finished in sixth place out of 35 teams at the 24th Annual Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota at Les Bolstad Golf Course today. Eau Claire, which is ranked No. 32 in the nation, took sixth for the second straight season at the invite. Last year the Blugolds finished with 193 points while they accumulated 210 this year. UW-La Crosse won the meet with 48 points while UW-Platteville took second with 81. Emory University recorded 113 points for third place and UW-Oshkosh took fourth with 172. The Blugolds were led by Ben Pearson (Sr.-Clinton, Wis.), who finished in 31st place with a time of 26:54.2 on the 8K course. Josh Wieland (Jr.-Menomonie, Wis.) finished two seconds later to take 34th in the 370-runner field. Finishing third for the Blugolds was Tom Breitbach (Jr.-Muskego, Wis.), who took 36th place with a time of 26:57.5. Breitbach improved his time eight seconds from a year ago when he finished 46th. Brent Kann (Sr.-Rice Lake, Wis.) finished the course in 27:14.8 for 54th place while Max Renner (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./East) took 55th with a time of 27:17.3. Eau Claire will next run at their Blugold Open, which is set for Friday. Action will get underway at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, Wis. at 5 p.m. |
