Wed, May 22, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Tennis Edges UW-Stevens Point 5-4 By: BJ Pickard, Sports Information Student STEVENS POINT, Wis. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team narrowly defeated UW-Stevens Point by a margin of 5-4 in a close match on Friday afternoon to open conference play. The Blugolds were propelled to victory, in part, due to their strong doubles play, taking all three matches. The No. 1 doubles team of Gina Dahl (Sr.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) and Courtney Lynne (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) won 8-6, Brenna McCormick (Sr.-Greendale, Wis.) and Erin Welch (Sr.-Tomah, Wis.) won the No. 2 match 8-5 and Emily Hiebl (So.-Wausau, Wis./East) and Taylor Heltne (Fr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) took No. 3 doubles 9-7. UWSP came away with wins in both No. 1 and No. 2 singles, as well as the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, but the Blugolds' Megan Born (So.-Antigo, Wis.) took No. 3 singles handily 6-0, 6-1 and Michelle Reinders (Jr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) won 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 6 spot. The Blugolds (4-1, 1-0 WIAC) have a quick turnaround, traveling to UW-Oshkosh for a 9 a.m. match against the Titans on Saturday. It will be played indoors in the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center. |
