MADISON, Wis. - UW-Eau Claire football tailback Cory Sartorelli (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./North) and women's soccer forward Shyla Gilbertson (Fr.-Waunakee, Wis.) have been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference athletes of the week, conference spokesman Matt Stanek announced today.

With the Blugolds defeating Hope College (Mich.) 52-45 in double overtime on Sept. 19, Sartorelli scored six of the Blugolds' seven touchdowns. All six of Sartorelli's touchdowns came on the ground. After opening the day's scoring with a three-yard touchdown run, Sartorelli added another later in the first quarter from 65 yards out, tying for the 19th longest rush in Blugold history. He scored two more touchdowns in the second, one in the third and one in the fourth. The six touchdowns tied for most in a single game, while the 36 points is the second most points scored by an individual in a game in Blugold football history. Sartorelli rushed 33 times and gained 180 yards, an average of 5.5 yards per carry.

In three matches during the week, Gilbertson helped the Blugolds go undefeated. In the conference opener against UW-Stout, she scored the game-winning goal in overtime on a penalty kick to give the Blugolds a 2-1 win. She recorded goals in a 5-2 victory over UW-River Falls and a 5-2 triumph over Macalester College (Minn.)
