(UWECBlugolds.com) - Led by sophomore Katie Maurer (Forest Lake, MN), the UW-Eau Claire women's golf team took second out of 21 teams at the 2009 Doug Georgianni Memorial Blugold Invite today at Wild Ridge Golf Course. Maurer was two strokes better than the rest of the field, finishing with 151 strokes in the two-day tournament to take home individual medalist honors. She tied with Stevens Point's Jessica Urban with the second round's top score of 74. Yesterday, Maurer was tied for third place after golfing one round at Mill Run Golf Course. As a team, the Blugolds took second, finishing with 633 strokes. Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) won the tournament with 630. The Gusties also won the tournament last season. The Blugolds' second team also performed well at the invite and took third overall. The College of St. Benedict (Minn.) finished in fourth while Carleton College (Minn.) took fifth. For the Blugolds, Catherine Wagner (Fr.-Austin, MN) was second on the team with 158 strokes, taking sixth place overall. Torie Ives (Sr.-Osseo, WI) finished with 165 and tied for 15th while Sara Mattes (So.-La Crosse, WI) and Emily Swift (So.-Onalaska, WI) tied for 17th with 166 strokes. Leading the Blugolds' second team were Jamie Hauser (So.-Hartland, WI) and Maggie Lattery (So.-Lake Nebagamon, WI). Both finished with +17 scores of 162 and tied for ninth overall. Next Saturday some of the Blugolds will compete in a JV Tournament hosted by Viterbo University in Sparta. On Sunday and Monday, others will compete in the O'Brien DIII Fall Championship in Notre Dame, Ind. |
