Women's Soccer Ties St. Benedict 0-0
By: BJ Pickard, Sports Information Student
ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (UWECBlugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire and the College of St. Benedict's women's soccer teams dueled to double overtime, but neither squad was able to get the ball past the other's goalie, ending Saturday's game in a 0-0 tie.
The defensive struggle saw the 15th-ranked Blugolds post 13 shots on goal, while the Blazers were only able to manage one. Blugolds' goalie Emily Kidd (So. - St. Paul, Minn.) was credited with the one save in the game.
Shyla Gilbertson (Fr. - Waunakee, Wis.) gave Blazers' goalie Shannon Strohm all she could handle with a game-high five shots, but Strohm's 13 saves were enough to hold off the Blugold offense.
The Blugolds took ten of their 19 total shots in the first period. Eau Claire had seven corner kicks to St. Benedict's three and bested the Blazers in fouls, committing seven to St. Benedict's 12. Both goalies played all 110 minutes.
The Blugolds (0-1-1) look for their first win of the season Wednesday night when they take on Augsburg College (Minn.) in Minneapolis. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
