Johnson Earns Academic All-American Honors Posted: Thursday, June 18, 2009 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - UW-Eau Claire men's field member Sam Johnson (Sr.-Deer Park, Wis./Amery) has been selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Men's Track and Field/Cross Country First Team College Division, CoSIDA officials announced today. This is the first time in the the track and field/cross country award's history a Blugold men's track and field/cross country member has earned first team honors. Johnson is only the 14th individual in Blugold Athletics history to have been selected to the first team. Johnson, who finished his undergraduate work with a 3.93 cumulative grade point average, won Academic All-American honors last season as well. He was a second team selection. Johnson picked up a national title at the 2009 NCAA Division III Indoor Championship as he won the weight throw with a school record distance. The winning toss was also almost six feet better than the second place finisher. At outdoor nationals, Johnson recorded a fourth place finish in the hammer throw. - KM - |
