Wed, Jun 19, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date 2009 Women's Golf Recruiting Class Announced Posted: Tuesday, June 16, 2009 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Head women's golf coach John Means has announced the names of four high school student-athletes who will continue their academic and athletic careers at UW-Eau Claire. The four recruits will join a Blugold program that competed in its ninth consecutive NCAA Division III Championship this past season and took sixth place overall. Last fall the Blugolds finished second at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship while freshman Katie Maurer won medalist honors. This year's recruits include: Katie Ecker, Brooke Finner, Jenna Pfeffer and Catherine Wagner. Katie Ecker, a native of Hudson, Wis., competed with Hudson High School twice at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Division I state tournament. Last season Ecker tied for 52nd as her team took eighth out of 12 teams. She won medalist honors at the WIAA regional and at the conference tournament as well last year while she was her team's captain. During her career, she earned first team All-Conference honors twice, second team All-Conference honors once, and her team won the conference's tournament three times. Brooke Finner, a native of Arcadia, Wis., competed with Arcadia High School for four seasons and was named team Most Valuable Performer and first team All-Conference all four years. She and her team participated in the WIAA Division II State Tournament three times and most recently the team finished as the state runner-up as Finner took 12th place overall to lead her team. Her best finish at the state tournament came her sophomore year when she took sixth overall individually while she finished 18th her freshman season. For her performances at state her sophomore and senior years, she earned All-State honorable mention recognition. Finner's team also won the conference title her junior and senior seasons, and she was named the conference's Player of the Year last fall. Jenna Pfeffer, a native of De Pere, Wis., golfed four years for De Pere High School and earned a number of honors during her career. Last season, which she served as team captain, Pfeffer earned Wisconsin High School Golf Coaches Association academic honors while she led her team with the lowest average score for the second straight year. At the WIAA Seymour regional tournament last fall she earned medalist honors. Pfeffer received first team All-Conference and team MVP honors her junior and senior seasons while she received All-Conference honorable mention status her sophomore year. Her freshman year she was also named the team's best new golfer, and she received most improved honors her sophomore season. Catherine Wagner, a native of Austin, Minn., competed for six seasons with Austin High School and earned All-Conference honors five times. Wagner was her team's MVP the last four seasons and took second place individually at the Minnesota state tournament last season while she tied for eighth this season and earned All-State honors for the second time in her career. She also competed at the state tournament in 2006. Wagner has earned a number of honors throughout the course of her career, including receiving the Silver Scholar Award three times and the KAUS Athlete Award in 2006. In this season's final Minnesota Golf Association's girls' individual rankings, Wagner was ranked 16th on the list of 150 high school golfers. - KM - |
