Men's Track And Field Announces Team Award Winners Posted: Friday, June 12, 2009 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - UW-Eau Claire men's track and field coach Chip Schneider recently announced the team award winners for the 2009 season. Blugold thrower Sam Johnson (Sr.-Deer Park, Wis./Amery) was named the team's Most Valuable Performer. At the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship, Johnson took home the national title in the weight throw. He also competed at the outdoor nationals and took fourth in the hammer throw. Johnson won conference titles in both events as well this year. For his career, Johnson finished as a three-time All-American. Patrick Mackin (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy) won newcomer of the year honors. Mackin was part of a 4x400-meter relay team that competed at the outdoor national meet this year. He and his three other teammates earned All-American honors in the event after taking seventh place. Justin Janke (Jr.-Black River Falls, Wis.) was presented with the Captain Award which is given to the person who is more to the team than just the points. - KM - |
