Women's Track And Field Opens NCAA Championship

MARIETTA, Ohio - The UW-Eau Claire women's track and field team kicked off its campaign at the 2009 NCAA Division III Championship at Marietta College today.
Mary Palmer (Sr.-Anoka, Minn.) took 11th place in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 37:25.80. The winner, Lauren Philbrook from Williams College, finished with a time of 35:24.78, a facility record.
Brittany Frederick (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) also competed today in the hammer throw but did not advance to the final round as she had a toss of 48.67 meters (159-8) in preliminaries. UW-Oshkosh's Ellie Sitek went on to win the national title with a throw of 53.61 (175-10).
In the 200-meter dash trials today, Liz Kooistra (Sr.-Lakeville, Minn.) advanced to the finals after recording a time of 24.80, a new school record. The previous school record was 24.98 set by Peg Peelman in 1996.
Tomorrow the Blugolds will be back in action as they compete in the discus throw, 400-meter dash, pole vault, 800-meter run and the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
