Women's Track And Field Opens NCAA Championship Posted: Thursday, May 21, 2009 MARIETTA, Ohio - The UW-Eau Claire women's track and field team kicked off its campaign at the 2009 NCAA Division III Championship at Marietta College today. Mary Palmer (Sr.-Anoka, Minn.) took 11th place in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 37:25.80. The winner, Lauren Philbrook from Williams College, finished with a time of 35:24.78, a facility record. Brittany Frederick (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) also competed today in the hammer throw but did not advance to the final round as she had a toss of 48.67 meters (159-8) in preliminaries. UW-Oshkosh's Ellie Sitek went on to win the national title with a throw of 53.61 (175-10). In the 200-meter dash trials today, Liz Kooistra (Sr.-Lakeville, Minn.) advanced to the finals after recording a time of 24.80, a new school record. The previous school record was 24.98 set by Peg Peelman in 1996. Kooistra also ran in two preliminaries relays today, the 4x400-meter and the 4x100-meter, but neither team advanced to the finals. Tomorrow the Blugolds will be back in action as they compete in the discus throw, 400-meter dash, pole vault, 800-meter run and the 3,000-meter steeplechase. - KM - |
