The Blugolds won by 26 points despite a 31-31 tie at the half. Rachel Becker (Jr.-Gilmanton) had a huge game off the bench, scoring a game-best 22 points while also dishing out nine assists and grabbing seven rebounds. Jessica Dickey (Sr.-White Bear Lake, MN/Cretin-Derham Hall) was second on the team with 13 points while also tallying seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Joanna Leafblad (Sr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) added 11 points and four assists while Murphy finished with 10 points and five steals. The Blugolds' championship bout with host Lake Forest was a much closer contest, with Eau Claire edging the Foresters 58-53 for the championship. Katie Murphy (Sr.-La Crosse/Aquinas) led the Blugolds with 11 points, five steals, four assists, and four rebounds while Michelle Burns (Fr.-Eau Claire/North) also had 11 points to go along with eight rebounds and two steals. Eau Claire was helped by poor free-throw shooting from Lake Forest, as the Foresters connected on just 10-of-22 from the charity stripe. St. Norbert comes into Tuesday's match up with a 1-1 record, with both games against Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams. The Green Knights opened their season with a 64-53 loss to UW-La Crosse but rebounded with a 62-42 blowout of UW-Superior. Both games were part of the Lakeland College Tournament. Rachel Dombrowski and Kelly Dugan have led St. Norbert early in the season, with each player posting team-bests of 20 points and 12 rebounds on the season. Dombrowski has added 11 steals and four assists. The Green Knights have been particularly poor from the free-throw line, hitting just 19-of-35 for 54.3 percent. The Blugolds are near perfect against St. Norbert in the all-time record, posting 12 wins against just one loss. All 12 wins have come consecutively, with Eau Claire's only loss coming in the first ever meeting between the two teams, a 64-62 loss in 1990. The Blugolds have since rattled off 12 straight wins over the Green Knights, with all but one coming by at least 10 points. The action is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night at W.L. Zorn Arena. - DN - |
