Sun, May 19, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Wrestling Announces Award Winners Posted: Sunday, May 10, 2009 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Former UW-Eau Claire wrestling coach Don Parker has announced the team award winners for the 2008-09 season. For the second year in a row, Josh Holforty (Sr.-Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy), who wrestled at 197 pounds, won team MVP honors. Holforty competed at nationals for the second straight year and finished in third place. Holforty completed his career as a two-time All-American, as he took sixth place at nationals last season. He completed the season with a 34-8 record while he wrapped up his career with a 109-35 record. Holforty was also awarded with the team's Most Falls Award, as he finished with seven pins this season. The Most Improved Award was presented to Joe Pitsch (Fr.-Oshkosh, Wis./North). Pitsch wrapped up the year with an 8-11 overall record but steadily improved throughout the season. He ended the year taking fifth place at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships at 285 pounds. Named captains for next year were Andy Johnston (Jr.-St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) and Jon Ames (Jr.-Genoa, Wis./Viroqua). Johnston completed the season with a 27-9 overall record and had the Blugolds' highest finish at the WIAC Championships, taking second place at 149 pounds. Ames completed the season with a 12-16 record and took fifth place at the WIAC Championships at 157 pounds. - KM - |
