Yesterday the Pointers led the 11-team field by five strokes but with the Blugolds' tournament-best 328 strokes today, they finished with 673, two ahead of the Pointers. Central College (Iowa) and UW-Whitewater tied for third with 709 while Carleton College (Minn.) picked up a fifth place finish with 714 strokes. Stevens Point's Jessica Urban led all individuals as she picked up medalist honors with 158 strokes. Whitewater's Chelsea Davis had the low score today with 77. The Blugolds improved 17 strokes from day one and were led by Emily Swift (Fr.-Onalaska, Wis.) as she finished with 166 strokes, in fourth place. Lauren Gault (Fr.-Shorewood, Wis.), Katie Maurer (Forest Lake, Minn./Convent of the Visitation) and Torie Ives (Jr.-Osseo, Wis./Osseo-Fairchild) all came in one right after the other as they shot 168, 169 and 170, respectively, finishing sixth, seventh and eighth. The Blugolds' second team came in sixth place with 717 strokes. Jamie Hauser (Fr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) and Emily Kerber (Fr.-St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral) led the second group of Blugolds as they tied for 15th place with 177 strokes. Because Stevens Point earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship last fall, the Blugolds will now have wait and see if they earn at-large berth. The NCAA will announce the complete field tomorrow for the four-day championship that is set to begin May 13 in Port St. Lucie, Fla. - KM - |
