Women's Golf Ready To Host Weekend Tournament
Posted: Thursday, April 30, 2009
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire women's golf team will host the Blugold Pre Division III Championship Invitational this Saturday and Sunday at Wild Ridge Golf Course.
This is the second tournament the Blugolds will have hosted this season. Last fall they opened the season with their annual Blugold Fall Invitational, contested August 30-31 at Mill Run and Wild Ridge Golf Courses.
A total of 10 teams and 61 golfers will compete in the two-day tournament this weekend.
Last season a total of six teams were at the Blugolds' spring invite and the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) took home top team honors while the Blugolds took third and UW-Stevens Point finished second. St. Thomas will not be competing here this weekend.
The top returner from last year's tournament is Stevens Point's Michelle Pascavis. She took second with 78 strokes on the par-73 course. Golfers only finished one round last year as the poor weather conditions prohibited teams from competing on day one.
The Blugolds have competed well so far this spring, finishing no lower than third place in any tournament. In four tournaments this spring they have finished second twice and third twice.
Saturday golfers will begin teeing off at 11 a.m.
