Men's Track And Field Competes In Iowa And Michigan

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's track and field team competed in several events over the course of the weekend, with athletes competing at the 2009 Drake University Relays, the Kip Janvrin Open, Gina Relays and Loras Open.
The men's 4x800 relay team of Tony Carr (Sr.-Menomonie, Wis.), Wes Fischer (Jr.-Rosemount, Minn.), Rob Wilcox (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) and Adam Flyte (Jr.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) led the men's team with a sixth place finish on Friday in the Drake Relays with a time of 7:40.43, a new school record.
At the Kip Janvrin Open on Friday, Josh Prince (Fr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis.) placed sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.82 while Sam Johnson (Sr.-Deer Park, Wis./Amery) placed fifth in the shot put competition with a distance of 14.79 meters (48-6 1/4).
On Saturday at the Loras College Open, Grant Haugan (Jr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) claimed the Blugolds' highest finish, taking home first place in the long jump with a distance of 6.59 meters (21-7 1/2). Brent Kann (Jr.-Rice Lake, Wis.) took second in the 1,500-meter run at the same meet with a time of 4:04.40.
At the Drake Relays on Saturday, Johnson placed 12th in the hammer throw event with a distance of 54.84 meters (179-11).
At the Gina Relays on Saturday, Chris Wirtz (Jr.-Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) placed 35th out of 87 runners in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:04.64. The first place finisher from Elmhurst College ended with a time of 3:52.52.
The Blugolds will compete again next Friday and Saturday at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Oshkosh. Events are set to begin at noon Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.
