Kooistra Leads Blugolds In Kansas Posted: Saturday, April 18, 2009 LAWRENCE, Kan. - The UW-Eau Claire women's track and field competed in the Kansas Relays today hosted by the University of Kansas. Liz Kooistra (Sr.-Lakeville, Minn.) led the Blugolds with a first place finish in the 400-meter dash with a school-record time of 55.12 seconds, beating out the second place finisher who ended with a time of 55.57. Kooistra beat out athletes from Butler County Community College, Seton Hall, Wartburg, Northwest Missouri and Iowa State. Hayley Suckow (Jr.-Elk Mound, Wis.) took second place in the pole vault competition with a height of 3.70 meters (12-1 1/2), missing the first place height of four meters. The 4x400-meter relay team of Laura Broner (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Memorial), Talisa Emberts (Fr.-Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton), Suckow and Kooistra took eighth place with a time of 3:57.81. The Blugolds will head to Des Moines, Iowa, next Friday for the Drake Relays. They will also be at the Simpson Twilight meet in Indianola, Iowa while another group will be at the Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Michigan. - MT - |
