Women's Track And Field Takes Fourth In Winona Posted: Friday, April 17, 2009 WINONA, Minn. - The UW-Eau Claire women's track and field team took fourth place out of eight teams today at the Phil Esten Challenge and also competed at the Kansas Relays at the University of Kansas. The Blugold women finished the day with a score of 95, coming behind first place UW-La Crosse with a score of 146.33, Winona State in second place with a score of 140 and Minnesota in third place with a score of 122.83. Fifth place went to UW-River Falls with a score of 62.33 while UW-Stout took sixth place with a score of 49.50. Seventh place went to St. Mary's with a score of 20 while the Wisconsin Track Club took last with a score of two. Overall the Blugolds had seven finishes of third or better, with three getting first place. Brittany Frederick (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) led the Blugolds in finishes today with a first place victory in the discus throw with a distance of 42.82 meters (140-6) and a second place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 50.73 meters (166-5). Julia Baranek (Fr.-Port Washington, Wis.) also took first place in the high jump with a height of 1.60 meters (5-3) while Chelsea Becker (Sr.-Rice Lake, Wis.) earned the first place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 11.38 meters (37-4). Teresa Coughlin (Fr.-Coon Rapids, Wis.) took second place in the 10,000-meter run with time of 41:52.87 while Liz Amici (So.-Whitewater, Wis.) took third place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.58 seconds. In the competition in the Kansas Relays, the Blugolds had three finishers on the day. Liz Kooistra (Sr.-Lakeville, Minn.) took fourth place out of 32 people in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.95 seconds. The 4x100 meter relay team of Amy Bachinski (Jr.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH), Jordanne Greenup (Fr.-Fridley, Minn.), Briana Berg (Jr.-Arcadia, Wis.) and Talisa Emberts (Fr.-Sussex, Wis./Sussex-Hamilton) took 12th place with a time of 49.12 seconds while the 4x400 meter relay team of Laura Broner (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Memorial), Hayley Suckow (Jr.-Elk Mound, Wis.), Emberts and Kooistra took eighth place with a time of 3:56.11 The Blugolds will continue competition at the Kansas Relays tomorrow. - MT - |
