Men's Tennis Splits In Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team split dual meets, defeating UW-Oshkosh 5-4 and falling to UW-Whitewater 5-4 here today.
The Blugolds are now 24-8 on the season. Following the day's competition, Whitewater holds a dual meet record of 17-8 while Oshkosh is 11-10.
Against Oshkosh, the Blugolds won two doubles and three singles matches. Phil Loprinzi (Jr.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) won 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles spot while Chris Kuna (Fr.-Edina, Minn.), who competed in the No. 4 spot, won 6-2, 6-2. Eric Wollum (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) played a close No. 6 match but came out on top 6-3, 7-6. On the doubles side, Kevin Fawcett (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Verona) and Wollum won 8-6 at No. 3 while Loprinzi and Steve Lantz (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Century) won 8-6 in the No. 1 spot.
Against Whitewater, the Blugolds won two singles and two doubles matches. Loprinzi won 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3 singles while Kuna picked up a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 4. Lantz and Lars Olson (So.-De Pere, Wis.) won 9-7 at No. 1 doubles as Wollum and Fawcett also recorded an 8-5 win.
The Blugolds will have next weekend off and will wrap up the regular season on April 25 with two dual meets. They will take on Luther College at 9 a.m. and wrap up the season against Grinnell College a 4 p.m. in Decorah, Iowa.
