Tue, May 21, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Tennis Wins Eighth Straight Posted: Saturday, April 4, 2009 ST. PAUL, Minn. - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team won its eighth consecutive dual meet today after beating Bethel University (Minn.) 6-3 and Hamline University (Minn.) 7-2 at Lifetime Fitness. Eau Claire improves to 22-7 on the year while Hamline fell to 1-11 and Bethel drops to 6-4. Aaron Johnson (So.-Andover, Minn./Elk River), Phil Loprinzi (Jr.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) and Chris Kuna (Fr.-Edina, Minn.) all recorded two singles wins on the day. Against Bethel, Loprinzi won 6-2, 6-3 while he won 6-0, 6-2 against Hamline at No. 3. In the No. 4 spot, Kuna won 6-1, 6-4 against Bethel and 6-0, 6-2 against Hamline. Johnson picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Bethel and 6-1, 6-3 win against Hamline in the No. 6 spot. Kevin Fawcett (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Verona) was the other Blugold to win against Bethel with a 6-4, 6-4 victory in the No. 5 spot. Lars Olson (So.-De Pere, Wis.) won in the No. 2 spot 6-1, 6-2 against Hamline as did Eric Wollum (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5. The Blugolds also won two out of three doubles matches in each meet. Steve Lantz (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Century) and Loprinzi won 9-8 (9-7) at No. 1 doubles against Bethel while Fawcett and Dirk Van Rybroek (Fr.-Madison, Wis./Edgewood) also won against Bethel in the No. 3 spot 8-6. Against Hamline, Loprinzi and Lantz won 8-1 while Kuna and Olson won by the same score at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively. Up next the Blugolds will be in Whitewater for three more dual meets. They will take on UW-La Crosse at 3:30 p.m. next Friday, while facing UW-Whitewater at 9 a.m. and UW-Oshkosh at 11 a.m. Saturday. - KM - |
