Men's Track And Field Takes First In Oshkosh Posted: Saturday, April 4, 2009 OSHKOSH, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's track and field team took first place out of 12 teams today at the UW-Oshkosh Outdoor Track & Field Invitational. The Blugold men scored 251.5 points to lead the day, with UW-Oshkosh coming in at second with a score of 244.5. Carroll University took third place with 70.5 points and Michigan Tech came after them with a score of 47. Fifth place belonged to St. Norbert College with a score of 44.5 while sixth was taken by UW-Stevens and Ripon College Point with 25 points a piece. The Wisconsin Track Club took eighth with a score of 24 while Lawrence University came in at ninth with a score of 14. Concordia-Moorhead scored 9 points to earn 10th place and Edgewood placed 11th with a score of 8. Northern Michigan University took last place with a score of 7. Overall the Blugolds had 24 finishes of third or better, with seven getting first place. Logan Koerten (So.-Plover, Wis./SPASH) led the Blugolds in finishes today with a first place in the long jump competition with a distance of 6.66 meters (21-10 1/4) while also taking first in the javelin throw with a distance of 46.87 meters (153-09). Tim Braunschweig (Jr.-Mukwonago, Wis.) crossed the line in first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.81 while Chris Wirtz (Jr.-Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) finished in the top spot in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:30.82. The 4x400 meter relay team of Chris Kupfer (Sr.-Germantown, Wis.), Justin White (Jr.-Arcadia, Wis.), Rob Wilcox (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) and Jake Zander (So.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell) took the top spot with a time of 3:26.75. In the field events, Sam Johnson (Sr.-Deer Park, Wis./Amery) once again dominated the competition, this time in the hammer throw contest, with a distance of 56.51 meters (185-05) while Nick Desotelle (Sr.-Weston, Wis./Schofield D. C. Everest) vaulted to the top in the pole vault contest with a height of 4.60 meters (15-01). Up next the Blugolds will compete in the Platteville Open next Friday in Platteville.
