Tue, May 21, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Tennis Sweeps Augustana And Northwestern At Home Posted: Friday, April 3, 2009 EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - After winning four straight meets, the UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team continued dominating its opponents today after beating both the Northwestern College Eagles and Augustana College Vikings 9-0 at the Ade Olson Courts on UW-Eau Claire's upper campus.
In the singles competitions against the Eagles, the Blugolds' swept the matches. Dirk Van Rybroek (Fr.-Madison, Wis./Edgewood) won the No. 1 spot with scores of 6-2 and 6-3 while Aaron Johnson (So.-Andover, Minn./Elk River) took the No. 2 spot with the 6-1 and 6-3 scores. In the No. 3 match, Chris Thornton (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham) won it with scores of 6-1 and 6-0 while the No. 4 spot was handled by Mike Olson (So.-Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) who won the competition with scores of 6-0 and 6-0. The No. 5 spot was won with scores of 6-2 and 6-0 by David Kelley (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) and the No. 6 spot was won by Willie Lutz (Fr.-Ellsworth, Wis.) with scores of 6-2 and 6-1. In singles against the Vikings, the Blugolds again took every spot. Steve Lantz (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Century) won the No. 1 spot with scores of 6-3 and 6-1 while Lars Olson (So.-De Pere, Wis.) was victorious at the No. 2 spot with scores of 6-4 and 6-2. The No. 3 spot was played by Phil Loprinzi (Jr.Rochester, Minn./Mayo) who won with two 6-0 scores. Kevin Fawcett (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Verona) triumphed at the No. 4 spot with scores of 6-2 and 6-4 while Chris Kuna (Fr.-Edina, Minn.) won the No. 5 spot with scores of 6-3 and 6-4. The No. 6 spot played by Eric Wollum (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) was won with scores of 6-1 and 6-1. In the doubles competition against the Eagles, the Blugolds dominated the courts again. The No. 1 pair of Brett Burleigh (So.-Verona, Wis.) and Mike Olson won 8-3 while the No. 2 pair of Matt Hambidge (Fr.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) and Thornton won 8-1. The No. 3 doubles team of Jeff Liegel (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Brian Mixtacki (Jr.-Madison, Wis./La Follette) went undefeated with the 8-0 win. In the doubles competition against the Vikings, the Blugolds took all three matches. Lantz and Lorpinzi won the No. 1 doubles match 8-5 while Kuna and Lars Olson triumphed in the No. 2 doubles match 8-6. The No. 3 team of Fawcett and Van Rybroek took their match 9-8 and 8-6 to give the Blugolds the sweep of Augustana. The Blugolds will travel to St. Paul, Minn., tomorrow to take on Bethel College and Hamline University.
