Posted: Friday, November 19, 2004
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UW-Eau Claire volleyball player Becca Carstensen (Sr. -Eau Claire/Memorial) has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American third team, it was announced today by the AVCA.
Carstensen is just the eighth volleyball player in Blugold history to receive All-American status, and is the second in two years as Brooke Wozniak-Schmidt earned first team honors last season. She is the first Blugold to ever be named to the All-American third team.
The award rounds out an incredible season for the senior Blugold. Earlier in the week, Carstensen was named to the 2004 AVCA All-Midwest team. Last week, she was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Co-Scholar-Athlete and was selected to the Academic All-District Five Volleyball third team as selected by the Colleges Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A first team All-WIAC member, Carstensen finished the season with team-highs in kills, blocks and service aces. She led in kills with 385, blocks with 182 and service aces with 61.
Carstensen finished her Blugold career as the Blugolds' all-time leader in blocking assists with 384 and total blocks with 466. She also finished fifth in all-time aces with 177 and seventh in hitting percentage at .297.
