Men's Tennis Extends Winning Streak To Four Wth Two Wins In Hanover Park

HANOVER PARK, Ill. - After ending its Spring Break tour with two wins, the UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team continued its winning streak today with a 6-3 win over Wheaton College and a 9-0 sweep of Elmhurst at the Center Court Racquet Club.
The double wins put the Blugolds at an overall record of 18-7.
In the singles competitions against the Thunder, the Blugolds' Lars Olson (So.-De Pere, Wis.) won 6-3, 3-6 and 10-6 at the No. 2 spot. Phil Loprinzi (Jr.Rochester, Minn./Mayo) competed in the No. 3 singles spot, winning 6-1 and 6-3 while Kevin Fawcett (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Verona) battled for the 6-7, 6-2 and 10-7 win at the No. 5 spot.
In the singles competitions against the Bluejays, the Blugolds came out with wins at all six spots. Steve Lantz (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./Century) took the No. 1 spot with the 6-0 and 7-5 win while Olson grabbed his second singles victory at the No. 2 spot with the 6-2 and 6-2 win. At the No. 3 spot, Loprinzi also grabbed his second singles competition with the 6-2 and 6-3 win while Chris Kuna (Fr.-Edina, Minn.) picked up a win at the No. 4 spot with scores of 6-4 and 7-5. Fawcett's 6-2 and 7-5 scores gave him the win at the No. 5 spot while Eric Wollum (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) won the No. 6 spot with scores of 6-1 and 6-2.
The Blugolds swept the doubles competitions against both Wheaton and Elmhurst colleges. The No. 1 team of Lantz and Loprinzi took the match 8-5 against Wheaton and 8-4 against Elmhurst while the No. 2 pair of Olson and Kuna took the match against Wheaton 8-3 and the match against Elmhurst 8-0. The No. 3 duo of Fawcett and Dirk Van Rybroek (Fr.-Madison, Wis./Edgewood) won 8-2 against the Thunder and 8-0 the Bluejays.
The Blugolds will bring the competition to Eau Claire next Friday against Northwestern and Augustana. The events are set to start at 3:30 p.m.Eau Claire/Elmhurst Box Score
