Stalker Selected Regional Player Of The Week
Posted: Wednesday, March 25, 2009
UW-Eau Claire softball player Katie Stalker (Jr.-Madison, Wis./La Follette) has been selected as the Great Lakes Region Position Player of the Week in the latest edition of Division III Softball - The Newsletter.
Stalker started 11 games and hit .500 for the Blugolds as they opened their 2009 season with a 9-3 overall record at the Tucson Invitational Games last week. Against Lakeland College (March 16) and Pomona-Pitzer College (March 19) she was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate and also scored two runs in each of those games to lead the Blugolds. For the week she recorded 20 hits and 17 runs in 40 at-bats. A season ago Stalker had only 23 hits in 44 games played. Stalker leads the Blugolds this season with 20 total bases and six stolen bases. She also picked up two RBIs on the spring break trip.
The Blugolds were also tabbed as the No. 10 team in the newsletter's national top 25 poll.
In the National Fastpitch Coaches Assocation top 25 poll, also announced today, the Blugolds are ranked sixth.
