Sat, May 25, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Tennis Comes Up With Two Big Wins In Orlando Posted: Sunday, March 15, 2009 ORLANDO, Fla. - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team kicked off the second day of its spring break trip with a win against LeTourneau University (Texas) 8-1 and came up with a huge victory against Carthage College 5-4 today. The wins today put the Blugolds up to 11-6 in dual meets this season. In the singles competition against the Yellowjackets, the Blugolds swept the matches. In the No. 1 spot, Gina Dahl (Jr.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) won over her opponent 7-5 and 6-1. At No. 2, Megan Born (Fr.-Antigo, Wis.) took her competition with the 6-2 , 7-6 (7-5) wins. Brenna McCormick (Jr.-Greendale, Wis.) won 6-3 and 6-0 against her opponent at the No. 3 spot while Courtney Lynne (Jr.-Rochester, Minn./Mayo) captured the 6-2 and 6-0 wins at the No. 4 spot. Michelle Reinders (So.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) and Jackie Gillespie (Fr.-De Pere, Wis.) took the No. 5 and No. 6 spots respectively, with both picking up 6-0 victories in straight sets. When it came to doubles against LeTourneau, the Blugolds No. 1 doubles team of Dahl and Lynne took the match with an 8-0 win while the No. 3 team of Emily Knudson ( Fr.-Delano, Minn.) and McCormick also won 8-0. In the singles competition against Carthage, Dahl took the match at the No. 1 spot winning 2-6, 7-5 and 10-7. McCormick battled for the No. 3 singles spot, coming up with the 7-6 (10-8), 6-4 win. Knudson competed in a hard-fought No. 5 singles battle and came away with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-7 (6-8) and 10-5 win. In doubles competitions, the Blugolds took two of the three matches to give them the 5-4 win on the day. The No. 1 doubles team of Dahl and Lynne won their match 8-5 while Born and Reinders handled the No. 3 match with the 8-3 win. The Blugolds will continue competition in Orlando on Tuesday against William Smith College while taking on Franklin and Marshall College on Thursday.
