Tue, Jun 18, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Holforty Picks Up Two Wins At Day One Of NCAA Championship Posted: Friday, March 6, 2009 CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa- After one day of competition, UW-Eau Claire wrestler Josh Holforty (Sr. -Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) is 2-1 and has advanced to the third-place bracket of the NCAA Championships at the U.S. Cellular Center. With the two victories, Holforty improves to 31-8 on the season and will face off against MIT's Joseph Silverman tomorrow in his fourth match of the 197 pound weight class. Holforty began today's events with a first-round bye. In the second round, Holforty went up against Luther College's Alec Bonander, who is ranked first in the nation and is the No. 1 seed in the tournament. It was the fourth time in two seasons that the two have faced one another. Having lost to Bonander earlier this season 10-0, Holforty turned the tables and pulled off the upset with a 7-3 decision. Holforty is now 2-2 in the last two seasons against Bonander, which includes a medical forfeit in last year's championships. In the third round, Holforty faced No. 8 seed Andy Moore from UW-La Crosse. Moore picked up the 5-2 decision to advance in the championship bracket while Holforty moved down to the third place bracket. Facing elimination in his opening third place match, Holforty stayed alive and posted a 9-4 decision over Nick Shandri of Wartburg College. Heading into tomorrow, Holforty needs three more victories to pick up a third place finish, which would improve on his sixth place finish from a year ago.
