Women's Tennis Kicks Off Spring Season Friday

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team will be back in action this Friday and Saturday to begin its spring season.
Last fall the Blugolds took third place in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and will participate in the WIAC's Automatic Qualifier Tournament on May 2 to try and earn the right to represent the conference in the NCAA Tournament.
Before that, the Blugolds will start the spring with two meets this weekend and will then travel to Orlando, Florida for five meets on their spring break trip next weekend. In April the team will be back at home for three more competitions before heading to the WIAC AQ Tournament in Whitewater.
The Blugolds finished the fall season with an 8-4 record in dual meets and a 4-2 record in conference play. Erin Welch (Jr.-Tomah, Wis.) had the best record for the Blugolds in singles play, going 11-3 overall and 9-2 in dual meets, playing in the No. 4 spot. She earned a second place finish at the conference tournament. She and partner Brenna McCormick (Jr.-Greendale, Wis.) also finished second at the conference tournament playing at No. 2 doubles. The duo finished the fall season with a 13-4 overall record and a 9-2 dual meet record.
Friday the Blugolds will head to Owatonna, Minn. for a meet against St. Olaf College and will then travel to Rochester, Minn. to face Cornell College on Saturday. Friday's events will begin at 6:30 p.m. while Saturday's play will start at 5 p.m.
