Women's Basketball Headed To Illinois Wesleyan
Posted: Monday, March 2, 2009
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - For the second year in a row, the 12th-ranked UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. This year the Blugolds will head to Illinois Wesleyan for the first and second rounds and will face DePauw University in the first round Friday at 6 p.m.
DePauw, which won the NCAA Division III title two years ago, heads into the weekend with a 22-5 overall record and is ranked 17th in the latest D3hoops.com poll. The Blugolds have never face DePauw before.
Host Illinois Wesleyan will take on Ohio Wesleyan in the first round Friday. Illinois Wesleyan is ranked first in the country right now and has a record of 27-0. Ohio Wesleyan heads into the weekend with a 17-11 record.
Illinois Wesleyan and Ohio Wesleyan were both automatic qualifiers to the NCAA tournament after winning their conference tournaments. The Blugolds fell short 46-42 in the WIAC championship game Saturday against Stevens Point, and DePauw also earned an at-large bid after losing 98-80 to Trinity University in their conference tournament Saturday.
Ticket prices for all games will be $7 for adults and $4 for students and seniors. Children 2 years old and under will be admitted for free. No advance tickets will be sold but it is expected enough tickets will be available at the door. Fans are asked to identify which school they are from when they purchase tickets because there will be sections reserved for each school. Gates will open one and a half hours prior to the games each night.
The winners of both Friday night games will move on to the second round Saturday night.
