Women's Track & Field Wins Pointer/Eastbay Invite

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire women's track and field team won UW-Stevens Point's seven-team Pointer/Eastbay Invitational with 183 points today.

Host school Stevens Point took second at the meet with 94 while Platteville and Stout tied for third with 88.5 points. Carroll University took fifth with 74, St. Norbert finished sixth with 49 and St. Mary's was seventh with 26.

The Blugold field members dominated the meet with three first place finishes in six events. In the weight throw, Amy Morse (Sr.-Kaukauna, Wis.) took the top spot with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying and season-best distance of 16.06 meters (52-8). Brittany Frederick (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) finished second in the event with a throw of 14.37 meters (47-1). Alicia Schuelke (Sr.-Gilman, Wis.) earned a first place spot in the high jump with a height of 1.61 meters (5-3 ?). Lindsey Haller (Fr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) won the shot put with a toss of 12.70 meters (41-8) while Frederick took second with a distance of 12.51 meters (41-0 ?).

In the track events, Alyssa Sybilrud (Fr.-Savage, Minn./Burnsville) had the Blugolds' best finish, taking first in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:14.00. She finished almost five seconds faster than the rest of the field.

Amy Bachinski (Jr.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) and Liz Amici (So.-Whitewater, Wis.) both ran to second place finishes, as did the distance medley relay team. Bachinski took second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.49 while Amici was second in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.65. The distance medley relay team finished with a provisional qualifying time of 12:03.79 to take second overall.

Up next the Blugolds will compete in the 2009 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships next Saturday and Sunday in Menomonie.
